[Icon][Icon]The sum of its parts

• Post categories: Omni, FOSS, Technology, My Life

Well, all the bits & pieces have now arrived for the Myth box. (With the exception on an S-Video - Scart cable, which I ordered off ebay yesterday - it was £3 there instead of £15+ from a shop, and I don't want to spend so much when I'm not sure our TV does S-video...)

The Overture II case is most impressive - everything I've come to expect from Antec. It *is* a bit larger than I was expecting, but at least that'll keep the components spaced-out & cool.

The Hauppauge card answered my one question quite neatly: "How does an IR remote work with a PCI card that's behind the computer?" - the IR receiver is on a cable that plugs in to the PCI card & can be stuck wherever desired. Since there's a table right by the TV that frequently blocks our DVD's remote signals, being able to elevate the IR receiver is a potentially helpful thing.

And I've burned a KnoppMyth CD that will hopefully make the whole process quite easy - altho it's complicated by needing a newer kernel version than the CD comes with, of course. . .

So we shall have a go at putting it together & getting it working, hopefully tonight.
