[Icon][Icon]Yay BBC! (Again)

• Post categories: Omni, In The News, Technology

The Beeb are making their programs officially available via BitTorrent P2P

Of course, they waited until *after* I'd bought all the DVDs for Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Open All Hours, and so on. But if they put all the old Doctor Who episodes up, I can see our download bill being rather steep for a month or two. . .

The Zudeo client doesn't seem to be available for Linux, but azureus itself is, so that shouldn't matter.

Cool!

Hmmm... it doesn't appear that we can "download" it like proper MPEG videos. Only watch it online through something like YouTube. again, the content will be DRMed and I doubt whether it will be free of cost... as mentioned in the last line of that article.

So you're probably OK by buying DVDs... you can at least play them in a different media than a computer.

So I don't expect anything big from them, personally. But that's just my skepticism coming into play.

I'm not so sure: It appears to run over Azureus, so one would assume it means a download.

Ah well. Even if it isn't, it's high-quality video on the Internet: It'll be cracked and available for the rest of us in no time if they're playing silly buggers with DRM ;o)

Reading the article carefully again, I think it's *not* for download. Especially this line:

> Users must also download a program to access and upload content

Makes me think that it's not plain MPEG format files put up for download.

You are out of luck.

"If you have Zudeo running it will take you to that programme; and if you don't, it will suggest you install it, like the first time you download a flash movie,"

I don't like the sound of that.

"The titles will be protected by digital rights management software to prevent the programmes being traded illegally on the internet."

Beats me why they use DRM on things they are giving out for free on the internet. Unless...

..as Hari said.

"No pricing structure for the BBC content on Zudeo has been revealed."

Though Zudeo *does* have a Linux version. I went to the website and they had a Linux version for download. No pacman package or AUR build for me though. I'll lay off it until I get more info on it.

Besides I'm not into this stuff anyways. Doubt Zudeo would have any Japanese anime for me.
