As a follow-on from my previous post about connecting to your home server, this is a useful guide that simplifies the whole process of using Putty without having to resort to squid.
Essentially, when configuring Putty, you only give it the local port to listen to: 3128, in our earlier example. Then you check the "Dynamic" radio button, and add.
Then set Firefox to use a socks server, go to about:config and set it to use the socks DNS, and you're done.
