Typical Slashdot...

Two bits of news from ATI about their graphics drivers for Linux.

One: They're going to improve their much-maligned closed-source drivers. Yawn.

Two: They're going to enable the development of open source drivers - something we've been clamouring for for years!

What does Slashdot put on the front page? Point one.

Sigh.

To be frank they improved a lot since the first days, but their drivers continue to be hit/miss kind of thing. NVIDIA seem much more committed to Linux even after so much has been spoken about this issue.

ATI have indeed improved, and there's been very promising noises ever since AMD bought them. But this is the first really solid bit of news that shows they're doing more than make promises.
