[Link][Icon]Sorry

This blog post is brought to you courtesy of an impulse buy. We went to a Best Buy store today and I made the fatal error of looking at the laptops. Because I needed a new laptop, you see...

Note past tense...

It's an Acer. It has a lovely screen, a superb built-in webcam, and two gigs of RAM. TWO GIGS... what the Hell do I do with that?!?

It also has a dual-core Intel CPU so I booted Knoppix just so I could see the two Tux emblems at the bootup for once :o)

The sad thing is, this means that this blog post is being written on Windows Vista.

I know, I know... I still hate it as an OS... but it's all I have available that can handle WiFi... and I'm still writing it using Firefox!

When I get home, I'll set it up to dual boot (If I have to pay the Windows Tax I'm damn well going to get some use out of it...) but until then... Vista it is.

Sigh.

Sorry

Don't get too comfortable with Vista, you might actually enjoy it. The only annoying thing is the built in unarchiver. Very, very slow. Might want to install 7-zip (in fact, it's a necessity). I wonder if SP1 will fix this? Then again, who cares, Ubuntu FTW

Is it just me or do I find that getting Linux working on new laptops is a pain?

Oh and are you sure that the BIOS isn't one of those that only lets you boot Vista? If it is, you'd have to wait a few more years 'til LinuxBIOS gets working.

I still don't get why people think Windows is so terrible. It works fine for me.

XP isn't THAT bad... compared to Vista, anyway..

Fairly sure it's not Vista-only. If it is, I'll just have to ebay it...

Well, that's at least your 2 Gigs of RAM put to good use - I'm not quite sure Vista would work too fine without that...

Yea.

I'm using XP on my laptop for gaming reasons still. Well my old computer is running debian. I don't want to dual boot because it is a pain, so I have two different computers with two different OSs.

Andrew: I had a reply all typed up, but I clicked the wrong button when Vista asked me if I was sure I wanted to allow it, so it was lost forever.. ;o)

Citronella: I ran the betas on my desktop last year with a mere 512MB of RAM and an old MX440 graphics card. First time I've had a lag from Alt-Tab...

Sokuban: I'm actually almost a saint, I just need one or two more miracles ;o)

Victoria: You're very kind :o)
