• Post categories: Omni, My Life

So, I arrived in Bucharest on Tuesday (I think, I've rather lost track of days lately) as planned. I found my hostel, no thanks to the Lonely Planet map which showed it in the wrong place (They've been pretty bad at maps here in Romania) and all was well.

I'd like to say a big "thank you" to Alexandreena from A Toast To Shoes for being kind enough to play guide whilst I was here. Who'd have thought that starting to read a blog written by somebody in Canada would lead to a meeting in Romania? Truth stranger than fiction, and all that..

But she was only in town for a while, and after she left for a three hour bus ride to somewhere else (Rather her than me, but at least it was air-conditioned. God it's hot here!) I went and saw the few remaining sights that I'd wanted to see whilst I was here: The Palace of Parliament, which is the biggest building in Europe and second only to the Pentagon worldwide, I understand; and the Count Dracula Club which was an interestingly themed restaurant with bleeding walls. Sadly, Dracula himself only appears Fridays and Saturdays, but it's a place well worth a visit if you're into that kind of thing.

On the way past Parliament, I saw a load of tyre stacks beside the road. Anyone would think they were getting ready for some kind of race or something...

But this is as far as I'm going.

I now turn around and start heading back in a generally North and West direction. Fun though it is being out and about like this, I've gone as far as I want to. I'm heading homewards now. Not directly, of course, but in general.

I was going to get the train direct from here to Prague. It's a 22 hour ride. I was prepared for that. But it left at 6:30am, and that's just stupid: I'd have to be up at like 4am to catch it, and it'd arrive at 4am the next day. What good is that??

So I'll hop on a train to Budapest instead, and take the journey in stages. Sod it!

Hope like hell that it's an aircon train...

You're very welcome. It was fun. And I'm a horrible guide - what, between my frequent map usage, and my inability to find restaurants, and the calling of not-all-that-knowledgeable-friends when I get us lost, and my constant complaining about the heat! Terrible.

I hope your train to Budapest has AC. I would not get onto anything without AC on a day like today. Have a safe trip!
