I spent a lot of the last couple days getting Apache, MySQL, and PHP working on Vista.
It wasn't easy.
A lot of the time I could just follow this guide but then I hit snags.
Mostly, it was MySQL causing Apache to crash ever time it was used. This was un-fixable, despite every possible solution. I had to downgrade from 5.1 to 5.0 to get it to work.
PhpMyAdmin also threw up errors, about being unable to load the mcrypt extension. Uncommenting the right line in php.ini didn't help, but copying the dll to the System32 directory and restarting apache did.
Hours of fun. Really.
On the plus side, in the process I've put most of my recovered files back across onto Vista, got things like Vi installed and running as I like them, and generally tidied up so that Vista's nearly back to usable levels. So that's good, I guess..

Hmm.. new look for twitter? I hope it gets less "Ick! Change! Put it back!" nonsense than Facebook..
