[Icon][Icon]You change as you age...

• Post categories: Omni, Rant

Why is it that, as you grow older, you start to grow more nasal hair?

And why is it so damned annoying?

Millions of years of evolution can't be wrong. There must be a reason why we're genetically programmed to gain an annoying profusion of irritating hair in a place that's practically impossible to shave.

Why??

I think the primary purpose is to block dust/other debris from going too far up the nostril[citation needed]. Maybe with an increasingly delicate immune system, aging people need more of it?

But it can't be an evolutionary by-product (in simple terms) because by the time you do or don't grow lots of nasal hair, (protection for immune system hypothesis) you've already reproduced (hypothetically) and contributed to the gene pool.

It's the hormones, isn't it?

I shall be solution-oriented here and suggest that there are very handy trimmers out there for this precise purpose. No need to try shaving.

You're quite right. And as a matter of fact, I own one.

But I can't find the damned thing, which is what lead to the surge of annoyance that prompted this post :o)

P.S. What's happened with your blog? Given it up?

I'd also like to point out that hairs growing *in* the ears are even more annoying. And I've not yet found a nose hair trimmer that doesn't tickle and makes me want to sneeze. Tweezers seem to work best for me.

Oh, and what's the genetic advantage of ear hair?!
