I don't have a problem with dentists.

Really, I don't. Probably because I was well past my teens before I ever had anything more than a checkup done. If anything, visits to the dentist are mostly a good thing: Go in with a bad tooth, come out with it fixed.

The problem I *do* have with dentists is the local anaesthetic they use.

It doesn't work on me very well.

I had to go in today for some work. Two teeth needed fissure sealing (where they just top up the enamel with fillings but don't actually drill into the tooth), and one had cavities. I also had another tooth that was very sensitive, which I mentioned and so it too was booked in for fissure sealing.

It was supposed to take a MAXIMUM of an hour - one of those "Expect an hour but it'll be done long before" things.

An hour and a half after I went in, I came out. My whole mouth, tongue, lips, and everything else nearby, were completely without feeling. This was because, in order to get enough of a pain-killing effect to be able to do the work, I'd had to be given FIVE injections.

Two on the left because that was the tooth with cavities. One on the right to allow for stripping away enough of the tooth for the sealant. Two at the front to allow for the sealing of the front tooth that needed it.

So I'm having a hard time thinking of much else at the moment :o)

But I was reading another blog a minute ago and I noticed that one of the books in the "Past Books" section was one I knew well: I bought a copy at Heathrow airport to read on a transatlantic flight because I'd enjoyed the TV series so much.

So I thought a list of the books *I've* been reading lately might be worthwhile. So, in no particular order:
Pain Free
Nanotechnology for Dummies
Twilight
The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents
The Amateur's Lathe
The Haynes Manual for the Vauxhall Corsa
Learn to Dream
The Mathematical Tourist
Carpe Jugulum

...quite an eclectic mix, really, isn't it..?

You're reading Twilight? Nice balance with the Pratchett books though :)

Yup. Metalwork is one of those hobbies I aspire to when I have the time, space, and money :o)

Plus I have a certain amount of admiration for simple but powerful inventions, and the lathe can do an amazing amount of stuff for such an apparently-basic machine.
