According to various news feeds, Jeremy Clarkson, notorious presenter of Top Gear, kicked up a furore by referring to our Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, as "a one-eyed scottish idiot"
He's annoyed the Scots because "Most people here are proud that the Prime Minister is a Scot and believe him to be the right person to get the UK through this global economic crisis." - which I can't say I agree with: Gordon Brown has been in charge of either the country's economy or the country itself for over a decade, and if he was too incompetent to keep us out of the current economic crisis, I fail to see how he's got the ability to save us now we're in it.
He's annoyed the RNIB because "Any suggestion that equates disability with incompetence is totally unacceptable." - which I also don't agree with, because I can't see any way of interpreting his words to say that the reason Mr. Brown is an incompetent is because he only has one working eye.
However, all this is moot, because JC has since issued an apology: "In the heat of the moment I made a remark about the Prime Minister's personal appearance for which, upon reflection, I apologise."
That's good enough for the BBC, who have announced that following his public apology they intend to take no further action against the main presenter of the BAFTA-, multi-NTA- and International Emmy Award-winning series with an estimated 350 million viewers worldwide.
But I love the fact that he called the PM:
And the only complaints were for the first two, he only apologised for the first one, and apparently all is now well. I find that very telling, somehow :o)
Good luck in the next general election, Gordon...
