I discovered the best orange syrup recipe by accident ages ago. It's this:
Squeeze the juice out of some oranges & sift out the bits of flesh.
Measure the volume of juice, then pour into saucepan
Measure an equal volume of sugar, add to saucepan
Heat until the sugar dissolves and you've reduced it to a syrup
Simple and delicious.
However, equally by chance, I happened to have the ingredients for a really, really good use for the syrup:
Put some vanilla Haagen Daaz (sp?) in a bowl
Drizzle orange syrup over it
Sprinkle Charbonnel et Walker chocolate flakes over it
Try not to feel guilty that your lactose-intolerant housemate can't share
Try it someday!
In other news, we discovered that one of the fish in the pond is hydrophobic when I looked out and saw it laying on the ground. Don't even ask...
