So I got a phone call from an agency that had come across my CV somewhere, asking if I was interested in a web dev type job.
I said yes, and a half-hour or so later was talking to somebody from the company, who wanted to see if I was interview-worthy.
They're an all-linux shop, so he had a few questions to ask about my *nix skills.
"What GUI do you usually use?" he asked, and I could *hear* him bracing for "Gnome or KDE"
"Well, on Ubuntu I usually leave it as Gnome, I replied. "But my real favourite is FVWM."
Long pause. Then:
"Sorry, did I hear that right? Did you say FVWM?"
"Yes."
"Wow."
A short conversation later, after we'd agreed on our mutual dislike for DE's (He's an XFCE user himself), deplored the use of things like Gnome-terminal when xterms are readily available, and answered the inevitable "vi or emacs?" question, I got invited for an interview.
That was this morning.
I start Monday.
Sometimes, there are advantages to being a card-carrying geek with a love of the command line ;o)
