Every time I want to transcode a bit of a movie for some reason, I have to spend forever looking up the command-line options.
mencoder just isn't easy to sit down and figure out.
Take today - I needed a three-second clip from a DVD. It took about half an hour to figure out the various options I needed to use to get this miniscule clip working.
So here's what I used, purely for my own use!
mencoder dvd:// -ss 0:43:38 -endpos 0:0:3 -oac mp3lame -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=600:pass=2 -vf scale=640:360 -o ligaments.avi
