I use a trackball mouse.
It annoys the hell out of everyone else at work when they want to do something at my computer, but I love it. It can be used on a small desk, a crowded desk, no desk at all.. Trackballs FTW!
The only thing is, frction can be a slight problem. When it's clean, the ball tends to be smooth but drag noticeably. When it gets a little dirty, it's more free but prone to sticking slightly.
I took a look for solutions to this, and found one that sounded very strange but worked disturbingly well.
Here it is: Rub your nose with your thumb.
:o)
The human nose tends to be one of the more oily parts of skin. Putting a tiny amount of this very thin oil onto your thumb and then using your trackball mouse gives it just enough lubrication to move amazingly smoothly.
Smoothly.. yet still somewhat disturbingly.

Hmm.. new look for twitter? I hope it gets less "Ick! Change! Put it back!" nonsense than Facebook..
