My trusty Ford Fiesta is now a little over a year old. In that time it's been left standing for three solid months, left out in the wind and rain, and then relied upon to do 300+miles a week due to my daily commute.
It's never let me down yet, which is pretty good going for a car that's done so many miles it's run out of digits on the counter and rolled back to zero.
Not only that, but not only has it taken the long drives in its stride, it's clearly been actively enjoying them: I get more miles per tankful every time I refuel.
Today is my personal record for that car tho: 364 miles on 35 litres of petrol.
That's 47 MPG (Imperial, not American, obviously) which is better fuel economy than a lot of people report getting out of their Prius'.
Plus the Fiesta doesn't have the huge energy overhead that buying a new hybrid car has, which puts it even further ahead.
So, a notice to the smug Hybrid drivers of the world: My clapped-out rusty old Fiesta is saving the world too. And it's doing a better job of it. And it's a hell of a lot cheaper, too.
And prettier :o)

I'm in the Perl newsletter again. I should try and write about some other language...
