Having done two hundred miles on my shiny new motorbike, I today took it for it's first ever refuelling.
Ten litres of petrol later, I was done. (About 2 gallons?). Put that in your Prius and smoke it! :P
I might start buying the higher-octane, more-expensive fuel just to make it worth getting my wallet out in the first place. :o)
So tomorrow, weather permitting, will be my first ride to work. School holidays have started, so traffic should be light.
Basic thoughts on the bike so far:
The revs take a *lot* of getting used to - I'm used to keeping them between 2-3 thousand on my car, and still can't quite believe that the engine's barely getting started at that point on a bike. You can hit thirty mph comfortably in first gear, tho it's far from ideal for cruising at. And I'm not entirely convinced by the gear ratios they chose - 30 mph feels a bit high for 2nd gear, a bit low for 3rd, but it's a commuter bike - 30 is where it's meant to spend a lot of its life. And fifth gear isn't worth going into unless you're doing over 60mph. But it barely goes OVER 60mph, so why does it need a gear for this range??
You can corner a bike far more sharply than feels believable. I can do a U-turn easily in a street, and you could probably do it in the width of a single road lane if really needed.
Bugs are a *lot* more of a problem when you spend a lot of time above 50mph. A damp microfibre cloth draped over the visor for ten minutes or so before wiping it down takes care of the problem, but I'll have to do it more or less daily, I think.
All the clobber I bought to wear, I've so far felt good about - the boots in particular are very breathable and comfy, the trousers & jacket zip together nicely & make you feel fairly safe all over. The gloves are comfy and fit well too, but they're just too warm for summer use - I don't like not wearing them, but on hot sunny days the fleece-lining really does start to get overly-warm. But I've not yet seen any decently-priced more summer-y ones, so for the moment I'll have to stick with very warm hands.
And glasses under a helmet are a real faff. Seriously, there must be a better solution out there..
Think that's about it for the moment. Except:
200 miles for 11 quid. :o)

Hmm.. new look for twitter? I hope it gets less "Ick! Change! Put it back!" nonsense than Facebook..
